Week 3: Steel fabrication, getting ready for no walls!

While there were little items left to do last week at the house, the major hurdle was to measure and order the steel, now that we had everything clear to do so.  By the end of the week, the steel was ready and onsite - this seemingly small load of steel will eliminate most of the walls on the first floor!

Week 2: Demo continues

We have gotten to the "unsexy" part of the demo.  Painstakingly removing nails, bits of insulation and remnants of flooring and tile.  It's also at this time where we can see the "mistakes of renovations past".  I'm not sure who did the HVAC in this house, but the first photo shows why not a lot of air was getting to the second floor! The carpenter was in to measure and specify all of the steel beams and the fabricator is working to deliver them next week.

Week 1 - Demolition

Demolition started early Monday with the removal of all of the attic insulation.  It makes the work to come a lot cleaner and safer for the workers, not to mention reducing the chance of a forecast of insulation flurries!  After that, it was people-powered demolition all week.
